Description
Mendenhall Glacier is one of 38 notable glaciers that flow from the Juneau Ice field. The Juneau Ice field is the 5th-largest ice field in the Western Hemisphere. The 3,900 square kilometer ice field extends from just north of Juneau, Alaska for 140km and ranges 75km from east to west in the Coastal Range.
Of the 38 major glaciers only Taku Glacier is currently advancing. The other glaciers are all retreating.
Mendenhall Glacier has retreated 2,800m since 1910 and 580m since 1948.
The waterfall on the right indicated the rate of melt.
