I was that close to a mama deer and her three younglings one morning while walking one of our natural city trails. She wasn't happy about it, though, and was dangerously protective. Scared me to death. (I had my head down looking at the sidewalk and only looked up when she snorted a warning.) They have very sharp hooves and can seriously hurt a person, if provoked enough--and she was! Really love this one, my friend.
