The Women of the Evergreen: Chart's McCoy She is also part of the Wondergirl's crew, which is a ship in convoy with the Evergreen. She is a member of the martial order The Magi of the Silver Rose as evidenced by the glowing gem in her forehead. They lay claim to magical powers which are merely thought to be metapsychic abilities. They are noted throughout the Imperium as navigators. Unknown to all outside the order, their gems are symbiotic nanotech computers that allow them to perform the navigational computations much faster than an unaided person. Of course, if this fact were known they would be hunted down and destroyed just as the Far Eastern Navigators Guild was. Navigation is just one small aspect to their gem's processing ability. In the universe of the Evergreen, all magic is the result of computation (if you want to see where I got this idea, read Charles Stross' _Atrocity Archives_ which is one of his many fine books). Therefore they *can* do magic, though perhaps not exactly what fantasy role-players are used to. Patricia "Charts" McCoy enjoys losing herself in the "numbers" which is a danger to those of her order.
