Description
The success of this image is probably very dependent on the monitor used to view it, LOL. Anyhow - shot this outdoors in the middle of the day with an AB1600 and a gridded beauty dish to simulate a spot light on the model. I used a light meter to ensure that about 90 percent of the light in the scene was coming from the strobe to get the day into night effect. Even among folks who know photography and lighting this type of thing takes them by surprise just a bit and leaves them wondering just when this shot was taken.

Very well done. The overall tonality of the scene is enhanced by your model's pose. The lighting sets the stage very nicely.

Something desolate and harsh about the scene contrasting with the beauty. Greta lighting.

At the risk of sounding like a commercial - the Sekonic L358 is a miracle. I has the cheaper one just to get strobe lighting ratios but when I saw a video that used the L358 I ordered one that night. Just one flash from the strobe and it tells me the exposure with the strobe at that location as well as what percentage the strobe is compared to the ambient light. In the studio that is always 100 percent but outdoors I can make it anywhere from 30 to 90 depending on the desired effect - is the sun or ambient reflected light the main or fill or is the strobe the main or fill. It also means I can take one light - speedlight or strobe - into an outdoor shoot and use whatever ambient is there for fill - although I think for some upcoming shoots I will be controlling the light on my subject completely yet still allowing ambient to light the outdoor background we shall see stay tuned :)

Well composed and presented..I have the meter but have not given it a fair try in ambient light outdoors. Thanks also to the pretty lady.
