Dammit, you stole the name for my alternative concept band. Frighteningly interesting montage. Wonder if the Russian text has any significant meaning for you. Quite an original piece, Mandi. Congrats!!!

This is what it is but i see here a challenge to freedom and the "inner eye" cannot be controlled.Excellent meeting of anatomy.

Love the butterflies at the end of the spines, the innocent, hopeful face inside the fish. And the other faces: one seems a little mad, the other consoling. Is that tattooed flesh in the form of a serial number? I like the way everything forms a kind of pyramid and at the center is a third eye which is aligned with the eye of the fish. The Russian (?) text looks intriguing. I am wondering what it all means. My first impressions was that it's about inner strength and finding a backbone. But when I study that and compare it with your title I notice how the anatomy models are facing backward maybe at the past and the faces are looking forward. So, then the expressions make me wonder if these humans have not learned from their history. In any case it's an intriguing title. As always, a wonderful composition in your unique and impressive symbolic style that makes me stop and look deeply and think about what art means to me.

Very original work. It reminds me of the internet, but not this one, the one they'll invent next.

I like the comments you get, I always listen to ana, and it's great to see Cathy (novelist) because she really delves into the work. I'd like to hire her as a tour guide! She helped me see the butterflies, the suggestions of fish (fins, eyes, etc) and questions about the backward direction of the bodies, etc...This is one of those images where everything inside the image is completely organic & attuned; yet when we step out of it, it's as strange as a foreign world...but when we go back in it, it all makes sense again. It's a frontal view that hides a backward view, and thus maybe your title? Forward Delusions (to paraphrase). And as for "Faculty"—well could there be a double meaning? Because you've once again portrayed an academic environment—you do this from time to time—in the dissection, anatomy and study. (I wonder if you haven't been in research, as these kinds of images show real conversance with that world...) And yes (ala Cathy) maybe those numbers are tattooed in flesh, or a symbol of the mechanization of people in this world. It has undertones of Soviet totalitarianism, simply because it's a vision of duplicity interspersed with Russian text (of which I could get the words "on/feathers/& other!"—lotta help they are, lol!!!). Can i say this right? It gives the feeling of faces watching us—even animal faces—while people have turned their backs and there's no connection whatsoever! Being watched but not connecting...that could be Soviet Russia, Romania under Ceauşescu, etc etc (am I miles off here???)—like what it was at worst under stalin, krushchev, etc...But even if I'm way off, there's a meticulous dissection & sleight of hand, a vision of the brilliant swindle of oppression. (Ana's "challenge to freedom, and the inner eye can't be controlled"...) Then Cathy speaks of the "third eye"—ie, the eye of wisdom & inner knowledge, which is the same as Ana's "inner eye". And since those eyes are so centrally placed, and since your detail is so vivid, clear & well delineated, there's light here all the same! And...that banner atop has a primal person holding up an infinite headdress or something...something mythic in the midst of this strange laboratory world. The primal is never far away in your occasional dystopian visions...A small & masterful vision, Mandi. A universe within itself. (was that a long comment or what! I think I outdid cathy! Do I get a free subscription to the newsletter? A t-shirt? Lemme know...)
