Description
Pawnee Bath House and Water park.
THE HISTORY
The two story bath house was originally constructed in 1939 by President Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration. The WPA building was constructed of hand cut and coursed native stone, the structure is a unique blend of architectural styles and stands as a permanent memorial to skilled artisans such as stone Mason
Frank Chidister who is credited for mush of the bath house stone work.
Opened on June 30 1939 by Gov. Leon C. Phillips, Congressman Wesley E. Disney and a crowd of local citizens and dignitaries. Bands played, Pawnee Indians dances on the beaches and the pool staff even hosted a morning long water carnival.
This beautiful, historic 1939 WPA sandstone rock bath house overlooking a two acre fresh water pool with sandy beach, water slide, high dive, water trampoline, diving board and paddle boats is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. It is located at Pawnee Lake and is available year round for reunions, weddings and parties. The Pawnee Bath House is on the National Historic Register.
