Description
A friend of mine who is a member here, had mentioned that he would like to do a collaboration, of our work, sort of a challenge, he asked me to supply a few photos, and his challenge would be to compose a poem based on one of them. Well last night as we were chatting I mentioned I had a couple pictures for him, he told me he like them both and then got kind of quiet after that, so I figured he was perhaps busy with his son. Then maybe fifteen minutes later, he sent me a file, titled Bridge, and before I opened it, I said don't tell me you wrote a poem that quickly, and he replied yes with a smile.
I hope you enjoy our team work it was fun, and Michael thank you for the inspiration, and for putting up with me, on the first file he sent to me, he had super imposed the poem over my photo, and I said oh that's nice but you are covering up my moon, LOL the second poem he sent did not mention the moon in the photo so I pointed that out, and he laughed and said I knew you would bring that up, and not too long after that he sent me a second, revised poem. Michael, I was amazed at your insight and talent to come up with such a beautiful poem and I have to say astonished at the small time frame it took you to write such impressive words. And thank you for asking, I think we make a pretty good team, and I hope you will ask again. Below is a link to his gallery where you can read his poem and view his gallery.

Bridge The Henley Street Bridge was built in 1930 and spans the Tennessee River To celebrate Labor Day the city of Knoxville, host an event called Boomsday, which is the largest fireworks display in the southeast, the display is held on the bridge and choreographed to music, its sort of a bid goodbye to the Summer season, and as they play the final song "Rocky Top", it marks the beginning to yet another season, Autumn or as I think as its better known here, UT Vol's Football season. lol

I always view full-size, and in this case it's a different photo! It has a wonderful sweep, you caught the light under the arches very well (it seems lit from within under the bridge), the hue of the pillars harmonizes with the background building, and the water gapes out into the shot beautifully. And the moon—it's so small and so high, it seems to be an olympian force gracing everything with its heavenly appearance. (A wonderful inclusion, Lynell.) And I had troubles posting in Michael's gallery (well, I had trouble in yours too, had trouble yesterday too!), so let me post my thoughts on his poem here (sorry! just ask him to come here & read it, I'll try to correct this later!): You captured the metaphor of a bridge & a bridge-of-love sensitively, and the poem is one long extended question, looking at the span & water as both foundation & menace & binder between people & potential to overtake, etc. And you go from the tumultuous to the comforting very naturally in the last 6 lines. It feels like a poem about arching & conflicting powers (the waters, relationship) & at the same time their union in the bridge. I assume you know "To Brooklyn Bridge" by Hart Crane...it's not about human love but awe at a daunting structure ("How many dawns, chill from his rippling rest...") If you don't know or remember it, you might want to read it just to see the reach for the incomprehensible that you've reached for here. You wrote a short poem but it seeks power in a grand & even boggling metaphor, and it's a fine collaboration of image & words, which I know isn't easy to do. A fine job from both of you, and Lynell, your image is quite grand.

What a mavelous structure and capture!
