Description

Maylu enjoys an early evening flight at mid-level over Dystopia City. Here, some four hundred metres above the streets, it is remarkably quiet. Just the rustle of her hair in the wind and the faint electric whir of Sky Spirit's motor. And perhaps, every now and then, a whiff of ozone that whafts up front from her bike's thrust as she turns. Other sky bikes skirt swiftly and silently above and below her. Their pilots engaged in their own personal agendas: parties to attend, contracts to honour, cats to feed, squeezers to squeeze and even plugs to tease for the more naughty. Some, like Maylu, just "ride the sun" as they say. The bikers are not alone of coarse. Some municipal floater bots, unable to make their daily quota of tourist pictures have now ventured up to into the lofty views of the rich and powerful. There is always money to be made by catching some celebrity or politician holding "company" with specially ordered synthetics or even an invertebrate - cha-ching. The floaters think of this practice as "veterans benefits", their "clients" often call it extortion. And until you've been blackmailed by an artificial intelligence, you don't know what shame is. Below, rests the city's main drag, Lord Яфpek Boulevard. Though restless is likely a better word for it. Glancing down Maylu can glimpse the numerous purple trams (CLRVs surplused from the TTC back in 2021 AD) shuttling the swarming black dots of people at the end of the day along route 417. From the downtown to as far out as the new city park - still called Old Triffid Farm on the destination signs. The park is a rather strange place, even for Dystopia, but hardly anyone "disappears" there these days so people (and "others") don't worry about it. Still, it would be wise for all bipedal vertebrates to wear gloves when visiting. Further above, at least a kilometre over Maylu's young head, are the crests of the highest towers. Some still bearing the scratches of the giant kitten that got loose over a year ago. Here are the docking ports for the endless streams of freight craft transporting goods in and out of the city. This was top level, this was the commerce of Dystopia, the blood stream of the city. Even to the casual observer the sight is like an endless migration of birds day in and day out. At least that's what Twinkle likely thought of them during his three day occupation last year. He caught at least six ships and made a good swipe at a dozen more. And in spite of the damage created by that unfortunate incident, most political leaders still do not have the stones to take on the Mad Scientist Lobby... ------ My thanks for taking the time for having a look at this piece. The storyline stands alone on its own... you ever consider writing? The image also stands on it own, the R/R on the bike is amazing! Excellent artwork!
