Description

Meet Lola. She's the blonde on the right. Lola is a 3 year old chihuahua mix who was left on the side of the road by her first owner. It seems her cats didn't like the dog, so the dog had to go. Lola (then known as Priscilla) ended up on doggie death row at a local shelter. Fortunately, a local rescue organization her about her and took her in. This was September 2008. My daughter Caity, on the left in blue, decided she needed a friend for her other little dog. We heard about this rescue and decided to visit because we just hadn't found the "right" dog. When Caity and Priscilla first saw each other, it was love at first sight. Caity decided to change Priscilla's name to Lola - new life, new name. Lola has become a part of the family. None of us can imagine being without her. She loves our other dogs and they love her. This is a shameless plug for rescuing animals - especially older animals. It's easy for a puppy to get adopted, but the older ones are often left behind. Thank you for looking and reading our little story. :-)

Beautiful picture! Look at that dog. She KNOWS you saved her. That's a HUGE doggy grin. And your daughter looks totally smitten. I am a big rescue advocate and a dog trainer besides, the ARL around here sends me to work with families who love their dog but feel his emotional problems are too much to overcome, or for some other reason they are considering giving the dog back. Here in Iowa, we have SO many unwanted dogs. They breed on the farms I think :-) All my Saint Bernards are rescued from puppy mills and they never touched grass before I got them. Some people just amaze me.

Wonderful story & Lola is a lucky little girl. I always have rescue cats & always go for the older ones, just to give them the loving home they deserve for the rest of their lives. As you say most people want the younger ones.

Nice. Love the title. We too have rescued. I don't think anyone will ever convince me that our dog doesn't know he was rescued. I can see every day how much he appreciates his new home with us in his eyes. And he loves his sister - our other baby, Bonny. Blessings to you and yours.

I am so glad I stumbled across your gallery. This is so GREAT! My wife and I have the same heart for older (read less desirable for adoption) animals too. We have 2.5 cats (the .5 is a stray that adopted us). The expressions of your daughter and Lola are priceless.

Really great that Lola has a new home, you can just see she loves it too. Our other dog is a rescue, and despite her issues and the fact we should have callled her LaLa (because she's batty), she just loves being with us.
