Description
They said whoever challenged him would die. Their controls would freeze up, their planes would buffet wildly, and they would disintegrate. The demon lived at Mach 1 on the meter, seven hundred and fifty miles an hour, where the air could no longer move out of the way. He lived behind a barrier through which they said no man could ever pass. They called it the sound barrier.

Yup. The text is from The Right Stuff. Great, great movie. One of my all time favorites.

The Bell X-1 was fast for it's time. It was one scary thing to fly. Now the SR-71 that was a true DEMON. It didn't give a darn about the sound barrier. A plane designed by slide rule. Nice Picture. The long and winding road for sure.

The Blackbird! Quite a plane and quite a story behind its' design . . . inspired by a UFO sighting by Kellie Johnson. ;O)
