Description

I have always loved dance, but it wasn't until I visited Hawaii in my early teens and watched the Hula Kahiko that I decided dance would one day be a career. It made a huge impression on me to see dancers relating to the earth. I am phasing into a new series of dance poses--just for fun and wanted to start with my first inspiration. I also wanted to try creating some new morphs for V3. If you want to see a lovely video, here's one I found that I liked. This is not the Hollywood version of the Hula: Hula Kahiko http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puelcyhsXQ0 The Merrie Monarch Festival is another way to see hula on Youtube. Isn't the Web great? : ) I compete in dancesport as a serious hobby now that I'm (much) older, but when I was young I studied many forms of dance including various ethnic dances. I made the pose from scratch and used a little poetic license. Anyway, here's another one of my tributes to sacred earth. The circles in this series are actually fractals that I turned into 3d outlines and have no meaning that I know of, I simply had fun using the designs. V3, Erato hair by Mairy, etc. (found at Renderosity), frangipani flowers (Runtime DNA), palm Lisa Buckalew (Daz) Free Floral Sundress by EvilInnocence (found here in the free section) Artmatic Voyager, Armatic Pro, Filter Forge, the Gimp for the background, then rendered in Daz Studio, signed in The Gimp. I put this in the Daz category because most of the work was done there. I'm not a purist in anything I do. As always thanks for looking and for your support. It keeps me working! : ) I have to take breaks sometimes in order to work on my dancing and travel to compete now that I'm healed, but I will return to comment and to post as often as I can.

You're getting some great atmosphere going in these latest ones. Nice work, Cathy. A lovely blend of V people and graphics as is your current style - and one that suits you tremendously.

What a delicate and beautiful character you 've created here! She's most gracious and, after watching the video you recommended, I realize how dancing unites people and their roots. Thank you very much for sharing this precious cultural heritage with us, and you've illustrated it so beautifully,Cathy!

always great to see some of your loving fans find the beauty in your images...I saw the link, it's wonderful. So the Hula Kahiko was one of your earliest influences? How nice! Because it was dance & chant to tell the tales of the people, or communicate to loved ones, or do rite for the community...The video has an almost monotonal chant (one note largely, indicating recitation as much as interpretative melody—I wish I knew the words!), whereas the dancers come in with several tones in their chant. And it's nice that they're filmed in a forest where their upward reaches (with arms) harmonize with the upward trees. They're clearly telling a story of some kind—indicated by their gestures. And there must be a leader, since one dancer is set apart from the others......On your image, how nice that you called this "lava flow" because you've added great heat & light to the dance (and lava is the pro-formative substance of rocks & earth too). That there's great grace to your dancer is no surprise, but her gesture comes from within and moves without (her left hand to her right hand), and she looks into that direction but seems contained within herself as well (her glance looking out, her head still aligned with her torso). Your 'halo' here—your nature's mandala—is transparent like crystal; I can see a waterline back there (nice that it's only half visible); you weave your plants into the whole with your usual design sense (this shows up a lot in your work); and you have these reddish & yellow cloud sweeps throughout, which feel like passion not only inside your dancer but caused by her very presence. (Her red gown & peach red skin adds immensely to the passion & inwardness of the image.) Another true design from you, mixed with dance & earth spirit, with powerful dancer reaching beyond our sights...more fine work, Cathy. Like e-brink repeatedly says, you are doing prime work. It's beautiful.

My first thought when I saw this? Pelee. And if this is her, you have done a first job work epitomizing her. Your dance forms are fabulous. How you get these poses so stunningly beautiful is beyond me, you not only have an artists eye, you have huge talent/knowledge of making Daz dance for you!
