Description

As is obvious, I've been away for a while. Things in Chicago have gotten strange, but that's not unusual. Corey's away for a bit longer, but if all goes right, we both might make a post tomorrow. It all depends on the caprice of this city. I have been photographing quite a lot lately, especially since I'm now living elsewhere in the city. I don't like where I'm forced to make residence, but at least I'm able to take pictures of urban decay, decrepitude, and slices of lives that few people should be forced to live The situation since I've gotten back to the USA has been hectic and chaotic at best, and without going into detail, I can now officially say that the words "family" and "liability" are synonyms. On the upside, I've been able to spend time with wild things, insects and plants mostly. This thistle blossom was taken in the truckyard my father uses. I was standing not too far from the spot in which I'd seen a toad! Needless to say, the toad has gone on to better things, but this thistle plant remains. I was intrigued by the delicate blossom, the colors, and the way it just stood so wonderfully still in order to be photographed. Use of a flash, during broad daylight, had the wonderful effect of darkening the background, and I rather like that. As always, thank you for viewing and commenting, and when time permits (hopefully tomorrow) I'll comment and enjoy all of the great stuff I've been missing.

The whole "holding still" thing when it comes to flowers is one of their most endearing traits! I'm quite fond of things that hold still. :P I've been thinking of you a lot, hoping all is well in your world. It sounds like things are a bit on the rough side ... take good care, and don't disappear! I'm sending loads of love and hugs your way ...

Adventures are usually the best time to find opportunity. Or at least that's what I've found. Adversity breeds survival and in survival many things present themself -- new roads, new adventures, hence, ongoing opportunities. I adore thistles. They are much like the life you are living. And see how beautiful it is when you get past the thorns?

Gorgeous! Looks almost illuminated from inside. Seems that you have that gift with words that lights up the grim innards of places and events. Your positivity will most certainly win through!

A lovely and vibrant flower. You are a writer and feelings go deeper. Good for your prose but not always so fun for other parts of who you are. Hang in there, Chip, and keep hanging out with nature. It is a great healer. CC

That is a wonderful macro. Like living fireworks. It's amazing to find such wonders in a truck yard of all places but that is the tenacity of Nature for you. That wiley old broad will win out in the end no question of it. Cheers!
