Perfect title, Scott. It's interesting to note that the flower is actually a modified leaf structure, a spadix, that surrounds hundreds of actual flowers located on the rod-like spathe in the center. After blooming the flower stalk droops, and fleshy green seeds quickly grow to resemble a miniature ear of green corn. I can remember, as a 4-year-old, getting scolded by my mother for always going around to each flower and pulling out the spathes, and twisting them to make the many little "corn kernels" come off. I can remember even then being fascinated by the way the "kernels" were arranged in a fractal spiral all along the spathe. ~Dave
