Description

All these old pictures I have been uploading have got me thinking about the people I knew when I was a student. Since I was the only one with a camera, I was called upon to take the portraits they gave to their family and friends. Sometimes I wonder where they are now. This was Norma. She was a dancer.

Very nice portrait. Her expression looks calm and slightly quizzical to me.

in full zoom, there's real grain; but I really like it in this shot. It just gives the picture a fine texture, whether intended or not. Your portrait is direct but penetrating; and you show---in this and other portraits from this time---a real propensity for looking into a person with your camera. You caught her seriousness and her softness at once. And I like how she juts ever so slightly into the shot, from our left. And the top crop is fine too, bringing her right into our sight. A beautiful portrait, direct but complex; fate did your friends a good turn by letting you be the one with the camera. (Were you on a commune? I lived in one for a while...) You were a natural at this, this is really beautiful.

Well I'm at an hour, and I've done around 10 pics, so I'll stop for now. I know I have a few more Cuba shots to do (a series I bid goodbye to with real remorse), but I had to get back here. This is a treasure back here. Have you ever considered re-posting any? Wonderful stuff,, Mark. I'll be back for more.
