Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."ÂÂ
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.

This is a great shot and not only is it very clean and crystline, but it is very tall, and give you the sense of being no more then a speck on the planet. Great shot!

It does seem to have a little more magic to it than other glass towers one finds in major cities. I suspect it has something to do with the shade of green it reflects. There is a certain 20's era Metropolis-like feel to such jewel colours. It's cleanliness might also emphasize that feeling too as the '20's was an era when man felt especially triumphant over the forces of nature and all things material and here is this tower defying both gravity but also the natural forces of decay that infect other structures - at least superficially. I like this shot, it really brings home the scale of the building too.

Ooh, I love this shot; the shapes, the colors, that city light...and it makes me feel really tiny. Beautifully done, Chip!

This building is so sharp looking that I was always afraid of standing too close to it for fear of cutting myself. It does have an almost ruthlessly clean line that is absolutely perfect for the "greed-is-good" 80s when it was erected. I thought it was incredibly austere when it was being built (around 1986?) and rather banal, but as time goes by, I've gotten used to it...and compared to the even more banal copycats that have sprung up around it in the last few years, it has seemed to take on some level of character. It almost seems dated now in that way that the 80s have become. Yet another great capture.

A marvellous shard, and maybe a great object, but someone has the WORK there?! Ghastly. The great thing (possibly the only good thing) about post-modernism was a new realisation about the need for human scale in the urban environment. A superb shot, Chip. It reminds me for some reason of the 'The Spire' by William Golding.

Great POV and reflections.

great shot.

it is fascinating how this building is a crystalline dagger jutting up into the sky, with the distorted reflections of its neighbors, it's almost simultaneously an affirmation, a mockery of the raw gritty life around it, and defiance at entropy and time, all in one view.

What an amazing pov on this one Chip, and yes it doesn't really look like a building to me, because all I am used to here where I live is either bungalows or 2 storey houses, it really is an amazing architecture, and thanks for sharing. Sorry for my lack of comments lately got a lot going on, and thanks so much for your comments on the work before last of mine, much appreciated. hugs Jane xxx
