Description

This is the start of a weeks worth of female Dragonfly images. I intend to post a different species each day this week. For those interested, the body structures of these females can be compared to those of different male species which I posted recently. Widow Skimmers are very pretty Dragonflies. The large wing patches make them appear bigger than they really are and the males can be identified as far away as they can be seen. I do not see many females at the pond. Most are in open grassy areas nearby. This female is not newly emerged but it is not a fully mature individual either. The older ones have much darker wing spots and the body colors are more intense. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Wow! I shall be watching with interest. Your series of male dragonflies was fascinating, they are so beautiful. I thought the females would be less decorative but she's lovely. Very well captured
