Description
If you drive north from San Francisco on U.S. Highway 101 to Cloverdale and just past the Hamburger Ranch & Pasta Farm (great burgers), you will come to Highway 128. Taking it northwest you will pass through a magical redwood forest and the Anderson Valley wine country. After 40 miles, Highway 128 ends at the Pacific coast near the mouth of the Navarro River.

I did this once and lost my brakes on a freezing, shormy night on the twisting road. Burned them up trying not to skid down the mountain! But it is the most beautiful drive and the air is so clean. Lovely pov here and mountain mist over the water.

Many years ago, when I was pregnant with my first son and living in Rancho Cordova, my parents and I (and unborn Charles) were on Highway 101 and wanted to get to the coast. It was my great idea to try a shortcut. We wound up and around, this way and that, up a mountain. We passed an Indian reservation. We wound up and around, this way and that, down a mountain. Now, I like mountains and curvy roads, but Charles didn't. That day I was very glad to reach the relatively straight coastal road. This is beautiful! I love the fog coming in.
