Hello !
My name is Helle. I live in Denmark on the Island, Zealand. I have a husband and two sons and three grandchildren, so I am a happy person.
I like many kinds of art and I try to limit myself, but I dont succeed very well. I love my PSP9 and I think I use it every day. I like to draw, paint and experiment on canvas or paper and I wish I had time do it every day. My biggest wish is, that there would be 48 hours instead of the poor 24 a day. I just dont think it will ever happen ;)
A fantastic new world opened for me, when I was Introduced to Renderosity for the first time. I am very grateful to be a part if this site.

Haha, this is really charming Helle! I love your leaf! Concerning the BG, it's possible that the problem comes from the way you used to draw it which seems different from the one you used for the leaf. Have you tried dry pastels, especially in the forme of pencils (Carb'Othello, or even better ones)? They are very simple to use and produce easily first quality results. Perhaps they would solve your problem. Alternatively, in your case, you could use Corel Painter (expansive and complex but a fantastic software) or, simpler, ArtRage. I've bought ArtRage but I became angry with it because it's not possible to transform drawing elements as one does in Photoshop and, because I make a lot of errors and I am a realistic illustrator, it is difficult to correct them in ArtRage. But ArtRage generates easily very nice painting effects and beautiful textures. Do continue the good work!

I was reading elcet's comment, and he makes a number of good suggestions. Backgrounds—for a single object—are always a challenge. (Well you & I both know that, lol.) A lot of masters didn't do much with backgrounds—in their drawings & paint sketches—so they obviously had problems with backgrounds too. Time after time, rembrandt & da vinci & others just drew their object, shaded it & let it stand. (Helps if you have paper that isn't white, of course, and I don't think there was white paper in those days.) Your background is simple & uses simple diagonal lines, and your hues are very restful & harmonize with the blues of your leaf, so I think you did fine. It's a background & it's non-obtrusive & it harmonizes with the leaf. You shaded well underneath too. But the 'star' here (lol) is the leaf, and I remember when you posted the original, and some of the paintings you were doing back then. This one has a 'pointillist' quality, ie, getting all the furrows with points of color (dab, dab, dab), and that's something you do very naturally. Very nice washes in each furrow. And your orange rim in the upper-half is wonderful. (And another thing you could do is just put a gentle wash around the leaf, using the bluish-violet hue you used...there are no answers, are there? Someone should have given us the answers when we were born!)
