Poland, Kracow. At dusk the weather cleared up. Tradition has that in the middle ages the sentinel that stood guard at the top of one of the two towers of the church of St. Mary sounded the trumpet to warn of a tartar attack, but was shot by an arrow through the throath before he finished playing. So every hour of the day a horn sounds the hour from the top of the bellfry, finishing abruptly with a groaning dying note. I thought it was recorded, but I was indignantly contradicted.
