Description

I posted a photograph on Monday morning of a Manhattan cocktail and called it Light & Glass: I'll Take Manhattan, and provided a link to the song by Rodgers & Hart. In her comment, Chris reminded me of another song I like even better called First We Take Manhattan, which is by Leonard Cohen. If you're not familiar with the song, you can check it out here. My favorite lines from the song: And I thank you for those items that you sent me The monkey and the plywood violin I practiced every night, now I'm ready First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin I HAD to do another version of the Manhattan cocktail, just so I could reference the song! LOL! Thanks to Chris for the reminder. (You know how every once in a while something makes you think of a certain person? My sister-in-law Cindy is going to love this. :) Hi Cindy! * waves * We're both big Leonard Cohen fans, and she was there when I took the photograph.)

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin.... I can understand the Rogers and Hart part, but the latter must have been uttered by General George S. Patton as his tanks roared through Germany during WWII. Of course, the Russians could have said the same thing around that same period, but only in reverse order. In any case, a fabulous exhibit of clarity, focus, colors, geometry, reflections and refractions in the above macro.

"...They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom...." One of my all time favorite songs from a man who's written a lot of good ones. I like how you tilted everything sideways so it makes you feel tipsy ( if not down right blasted ), and a bit unsteady on your moorings. I also like the nice painterly quality that you don't notice until you've looked at the image for a minute. Wonderful work, thoughtful, and a lot of fun.
