Description
My tribute to J.R.R. Tolkien and all the other artists who have been inspired by his works.
This is my interpretation of the great underground city of the dwarves, though I'm sure is heavily influenced by the movies.
It's kinda hard to see at this size, but the crown with stars and hammer/anvil emblems from the gate (as illustrated in the book) are on the banner behind the throne.
Originally I was going to use real radiosity to light the scene with just what reflects off the dias, but that didn't work, so it turned into an exercise in fake radiosity, it's really several invisible point lights floating in the air.
Everything modeled in Wings 3D, rendered in Vue, minor postwork to get glare on the bright areas.
Thanks for looking!

Interesting. I am more reminded of Balin's tomb - I am currently listening to the unabridged audiobook for the umpteenth time, so the Balin impression was almost immediate :)

I guess I was kinda thinking of the scene in the movie with Balin's tomb, and the huge hall place that the light shines through to get there. I've seen those movies soo many times...

Well done both the scene and models!

Love LotR! Wonderful image! Reading what you wrote, I can see that the banner has the same emblem as the gate in the book. Beautiful light and detail!
