Description

The Leif Ericson was a plastic model spaceship published by AMT back in 1968. It was a commercial flop, but baby-boomer SF fans refuse to let the model die. I try to put this ship from the '60 in a kind of a "vintage" spaceport. Rendered in Bryce 4, color correction in Photoshop. The original file is 2726x3636 pixels. Better view in full size. Comments and rates are welcomed! :) Luca Oleastri (a.k.a. duo, a.k.a. Innovari) www.innovari.it

I have to hand it to you. This is a great concept and render. Although I'm not familiar with the model, I'm a big fan classic sci-fi and model making. I'm most impressed...

Duo, this is one of my all time favorite models. I never had the chance to build it. I always wanted to. I like your render of it. Another fact not noted, the model was designed by Matt Jeffreries. The designer of the starship Enterprise. Preeder how much do you want to sell your model for?

I had the original AMT kit of it, with the short story folder and the chrome accents. It was one of those kit I felt no need whatsoever to paint (thank Ghu, as I was a lousy kit painter!). I was surprised to discover a decade later that Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle were fans of the ship and gabve it a straaing role as the starship MacArthur in their novel THE MOTE IN GOD'S EYE. Here's a website that seems the most complete for info on the kit, the fictional ship, and later incarnations-- http://www.projectrho.com/SSC/index.html

I had this model hanging from fishing line in a corner of my room when I was a kid! I used to love watching it glow in the dark at bed time. It was right near my Farrah Faucett and velvet neon Bruce Lee posters. You've got to tell me where I can get this model, please!

It's really wonderful how you can find the child you were in renders like this. Never let that go, never give up on your child's dream !

Love that ship. Got the re-released kit on order from Round 2 models. Like what you've done with the 60s-style backdrop!
