Description

Retiring the old personal desktop (Whitestar 2) and moving my stuff to "Hyperion", the new desktop I am building now. Hyperion is a Quadcore AMD with 4GB of RAM and two SATA 500 GB HDDs in RAID 0 configuration. Running XP 64 on the new desktop (just like Aggememnon). I'll wait for Win 7 to actually become stable-they already have their first major bug reported and the damn OS just released. WS2's 2.2 GHz Celeron and 1.5 GB of RAM still has life in it so I am making it into a dedicated server for the house. I updated the older (and fading)80 GB HDD with a screaming deal from NewEgg: (4) 250 GB HDD for about $50 USD a pop. I'm putting two in WS2, set up as RAID 0 so if the first HDD fails, the second mirrored HDD can be put w/o losing anything. The second pair of 250 HDDs will be going into Aggememnon (also as RAID 0) this weekend when I rebuild it.

maybe it's me, but you could go to Raid 1 if you have 2 SATAs...

I'll double-check the manual but I seem to recall the ECS motherboard had something weird like RAID 0 or RAID 5 internal support only for SATA. Thanks for the observation!

Been a nightmare unfortunately: Had to roll back to XP Pro as some of my apps won't work on XP64-even in compatibllty mode, the RAID 0 refuses to function correctly and I've had to work on two of the kid's PCs (bad P/S and one is stuck in a reboot loop). So Hyperion is sitting in the same spot as the picture, Whitestar2 is still grinding along, and Aggememnon (render machine), is still parked (but not off--I have a couple of renders to posted when I get time)..

I am not either a gamer nor a 3D artist, so i use a commercial configuration, processor and RAM are enough for my 2D stuff. Your one sounds cool, hope you will be satisfy with.

Very nice setup, that's quite a machine you have there. I'm with you on waiting on Windows 7, though. The initial release of any software ALWAYS has bugs that are fixed in 3 - 6 months. What gets me is, they know those bugs are there and are usually working on the fixes but still release the software anyway. Once you get this baby humming you'll really cruise!

Should have more time to get back to working on it (and doing renders). Got word the company was sold on Friday and on Monday, I get my walking papers.
