Description

Found this dude in the back yard yesterday. It is in the weevil family and called a Billbug. Got a full ID from a entomologist at BugGuide.net. Billbug - Genus Sphenophorus - Subspecies Sphenophorus venatus glyceriae. Tomorrow, I have a new Bubble blowing fly of a diff. type than my last one. Thanks for looking... Bruce

Those filters you use are incredible. The lighting is great too. All makes up for some great images.

Hmmm...I see potential for a walking beer keg (nose looks like a spigot?)

He's a weevil, that's for sure! Look at that schnoz, that's such a weevil schnoz, and it's a good one too! I love these creatures, and I'm always a bit hesitant to destroy the ones that decide to set up housekeeping in bags of flour that have gone forgotten for quite some time...I draw the line at them in my oatmeal, only because I don't have the heart to kill and eat them despite the protein supplements they'd undoubtedly provide. They're just too cute...and yeah, I've encountered more weevils than I care to, simply by helping to take care of an ailing grandmother. I felt like I was taking care of the weevils in the pantry too, as I was rather protective of the one bag of flour they'd claimed. Ah, but this is a different and apparently bigger species all together, but it's a wonderful specimen and yes, it does remind me of an ambulatory beer keg, which is probably a part of its appeal! This is great work!
