Description
This is a pretty big Dragonfly - 3"(75mm) long. They are found in all 50 states and southern Canada. They will gather in swarms when prey is abundant. They seldom perch.
As is always the case, I try to get close enough to get a pic (usually about 4' when using my D40x. After getting a shot or two, I will then attempt to get close enough to get a pic with my Coolpix 7900 (usually about 6").
If that is successful, I then attempt to move my left hand close enough to touch the Dragonfly and see if it will step onto a finger. This is possible more often than one would imagine. Of course it takes a heck of a lot of attempts for each success, lol.
This male was bold. He let me get a number of close shots including this one.
