The way to resolve the floating cat issue is to have a hidden light source over the cat models, this will cast the shadow allowing you to place them on the floor correctly. Then you can hide them so your main light source can be used to compliment the scene in the final render. Your potted plant is placed correctly :) This is a beautiful render and I wouldnt take the time to make a suggestion if I didnt like it.
