Description

Another from my Aug 09, 2009 hummer experience. I believe these were primarily juveniles and were molting, hence the unkempt appearance. For others, navigate over here.

Stunning image. I can't believe there's no blur on the wings. I believe this is a female Ruby Throated hummer. Beautiful!

Thanks, Tammylinn.. Yes, it's a ruby (pretty much the only thing we get around here, although I've read there can be a Rufous or two somewhere), and I think it's a molting juvie female. I definitely got at least one juvie male as well, with one single ruby gorget feather. There were at least 3 of them crowding these feeders this day, but with the level of activity, it's difficult to be certain of exact numbers.. As for the lack of wing blur, between the shutter speed and my utter luck getting her when her wings were at the end of a flap made all the difference.
