I even remembered when (as a short little shrimp visiting dad) the phone company switching centers used to have massive multi-story relay stacks and not computers and routers. Clickity clack to say the least. Of course that's long gone. I like how it's actually a bit artistic for a manhole cover. The gear and bolts motif is neat, even if I'm not sure how it relates to a phone line cable trunk. Usually these days all you see either diamond plate or waffle grid pattern and that's it.
