Description

The basilica of Notre-Dame (Our Lady) of la Treille in situated in Lille, a big town in the North of France, very near Belgium. It is of neo-gothic style. Its building began in 1854 and ended in 1999, nearly one century and a half after. Its frontage is not an opaque wall: the central part of it is made of 110 white marble plates which are sustained by a metallic skeleton, allowing the sun rays to enter the building. When the sun shines, it is simply marvelous! I dedicate this picture to Réal (MagikUnicorn). Best viewed full size. All comments welcome.

Techdata: Nikon D50 with Sigma 4-5.6/10-20mm at shortest focal length (103° diagonal angle), 1/13s at f/6.3 hand-held, 800 ISO. Slight improvement of highlights plus sharpness increase in Lab Mode on the Grey Channel, in Photoshop CS3 Extended.

Note: When I took this image, I was with friends who were not at all interested by photography, therefore time was lacking for me to be mindful of everything. I took great care to show the reflexions on the ground, but not at the column on the left! Hence the important error in the composition of this picture. I am also conscious that the highlights are burnt. But because this photo seems me pleasant, I made the choice to share it with you.
