Description

This castle had eluded me on two previous flights to Fort William, tricky to spot. Its name derives from 'Inver', Gaelic for 'at the mouth of' and Lochy, the name of the river that runs into Loch Linnhe close by. In 1645 the castle was the site of the famously bloody victory of the Marquis of Montrose over the Marquis of Argyll, who lost 1500 men.

Outstanding capture. Lots of mountains around Fort William. Ben Nevis topped well over 4,000 feet on Lock Linnhe(if I remember correctly). Bit of a crazy history buff. I was on my way to see the Glenfinnan Monument and eventially walk the Culloden Battlefield. Wonderful country - wonderful country. Dana
