Description

She spun and pirouetted while slashing and lunging. She lost herself in the movement of the swords of nuclear force as they slashed the thin air. She well knew the woman padding down toward her from the starport on the hill. Her footsteps seemed to be the only sound on the ancient, dessicated world orbiting the huge gas giant. Kali paused and asked, "Ishtar Prome'O of the Silver Fleet of Erhlu, what brings you to my solitude? I do not want to kill any more worlds with my power." "Kali, Dancer of Death, I have become aware of a twist of the macro levels of probability concerning the ancient Typhon, last uncontracted of your species. He has stirred from his eternal slumber." Kali's swords flickered and went out like candles in the wind. She turned her red eyes on the Ishtar. She waved her four arms and asked, "Are you joking? Or lying?" The Ishtar shook her head. "Niether, I fear. I have my ship here to carry you to the ancient planet of Death, where your people came from before the Golden Fleet carried it off to place it outside the Milky Way Galaxy. I would ask you to look into this. Find out WHY is he stirring." "Not kill anyone?" Kali seemed to dread the thought and anticipate her own blood lust at the same time. "If someone is provoking him to stir--kill them ALL, QUICKLY! Remember the mega-massacre at Triangulum! Over one hundred MILLION planets destroyed and more life than the mind can count or estimate killed. That was due to just ten million of your kindred." The Ishtar seemed sad as she gazed on Kali. Kali sighed. "I was born after Triangulum. My hands are stained by the millions I killed after then. As one of the last children of that accursed race, those of the Althan planet took pity on me and a handful of others and bound us into humanoid bodies to learn the human ways of feeling." "I learned to late. I did learn guilt." Kali looked up at the silvery ship, floating like a metal lotus blossom on the sea of stars. "They wrote on me a way to find the planet of Death. I will go and see Typhon with my own eyes. I will lull him back to sleep another four thousand millennium away, and seek out why he stirred before any more planets are destroyed by him." The Ishtar nodded to her. Kali stopped and turned back to the Ishtar and asked, "How will you leave this lifeless world without a ship?" "Someone will happen by in a few hours. A little solitude will not harm me. The meeting with the Four Brothers left me fatigued. They have so much hate and madness. I feel assaulted by them. Our Erhlutian species is not the way of such deep feeling or obsession! However....", she trailed off in wonder. Kali raised an eyebrow in question. "However?" "I am puzzled by the recent visit of those beings from the Child Galaxy. I know...I should say FEEL they are connected somehow. Be careful. I know you are immortal, but you never know...Typhon can kill you." The Ishtar's concern touched Kali in a way she found uncomfortable. Kali twisted space onto the control deck of the ship. She plugged herself into the nav system of it and performed a transvection to the Slip-stream system of Hyperspace. She'd be to the planet of Death ,over 75,000 light years away, within the day. --TO BE CONTINUED!-

Fantastic imagery -- the use of the background is great. The planet reminds me somewhat of Chesley Bonestell.
