Description

"'Tis the last rose of summer Left blooming alone; All her lovely companions Are faded and gone; No flower of her kindred, No rosebud is nigh, To reflect back her blushes, To give sigh for sigh. I'll not leave thee, thou lone one! To pine on the stem; Since the lovely are sleeping, Go, sleep thou with them. Thus kindly I scatter, Thy leaves o'er the bed, Where thy mates of the garden Lie scentless and dead. So soon may I follow, When friendships decay, From Love's shining circle The gems drop away. When true hearts lie withered And fond ones are flown, Oh! who would inhabit, This bleak world alone?" BACKGROUND: The Last Rose of Summer is a poem by Irish poet Thomas Moore, who was a friend of Byron and Shelley. Moore wrote it in 1805 while at Jenkinstown Park in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Sir John Stevenson set the poem to its widely-known melody, and this was published in a collection of Moore's work called Irish Melodies (1807-34). Want a little more? Look HERE. And don't be sad...they'll be back in the springtime! April 15th at my house...OMG, that's 6 1/2 months. But it'll go fast:-) Bill:) Played on the Irish Tin Whistle

Rich red that appeals to the heart. Wonderful pov and clean shot. I tried to get the link for the Iris tin whistle since I've a passion for it but I only got an error. I'll have to try it from home later tonight.

Oh my, I thought you were the author of that poignant bit of poetry! Oh well...lovely anyway. Fine focus, clarity and colors in this shot of the lovely blooms, amidst the shiny deep green leaves, Bill. And roses are pretty much a perennial event around here, but they're really in their glory in the spring.

I really cherish those first and last blooms, isn't it a shame that they don't last all year around. My roses are just starting to get their new leaves. This is a lovely photo with the old and the new.

How are you Bill since your operation, I do hope you are feeling much better? Sorry I have not been around much due to family matters, but hope to be back soon in a couple of weeks. The poetry is sublime and your photo compliments it perfectly Bill, very well done, hugs Jane xx
