He wanted Jason to come over to his studio to discuss his career options as a model. He even suggested that Jason bring someone along that he trusted to help him to make a smart career decision because of the seriousness of the proposal Mr. Cogsworth was going to make. Jason's brother, Clayton, was visiting from college, (2nd year law). Jason loved and trusted his older brother, so he got him to accompany him to Mr. Cogsworth's. When they got to Mr. Cogsworth's, he ushered them into his studio right away and presented him with what appeared to be a contract. Mr. Cogsworth explained that after his contacts in the big city saw the second set of photos, they wanted to sign Jason on with their firms right away before someone else spotted him and stole him away. This news hit Jason's vanity just right and he was ready to sign the contract right then and there, but his brother stalled him and made him sit down and read it while he studied it over his shoulder. Clayton had learned a few things in his two years of college and he spotted several flaws in the contract right away, which he pointed out to Mr. Cogsworth. The expression on Mr. Cogworth's face didn't change one bit as he said the entire contract was negotiable and that was why he had hoped Jason would bring someone along who would help Jason from making a too quick decison. Clayton was concered by the length and exclusivity of the contract and the demands on Jason's time. He felt the time needed to be shortened and some other clauses loosened up just in case Jason didn't like the modeling business and wanted to get out while he was still young enough to pursue a different career. After all, he hoped his younger brother still planned on going to college. Clayton and Mr. Cogsworth haggled over the wording of the contract until Clayton was satisfied his younger brother wasn't going to be taken for a ride. Then after explaining it to Jason, he let him sign it. Next stop, the big city and the start of a model career for our young, handsome Jason. Of course, Jason asked Clayton to represent him in all his future dealings and of course, Clayton accepted (contract to follow). Mr. Cogsworth was happy to have discovered a potentially hot commodity for his contacts in the city. If it all worked out like he hoped, he stood to make a small fortune off this venture as well.
