Awesome spider.....I don't like the sound of "bunch of spiders" though.

Awesome capture. Isn't it a wolf spider? Anyway, he's great!

I'm not sure exactly but I really think this is a fishing (sometimes called a dock or nursery web) spider. They are closely related to wolf spiders but have a different eye arrangement and the females carry their egg sacs differently. They are usually found near water and they can hang over water waiting for tiny water creatures to jump on. Yes, they can walk on water to reach prey. This is one of the best shots I've seen of this species.

He looks like a big one. I like the way the legs look for some reason. Great capture!

The size of his abdomen indicates he hasn't eaten recently. This is a gorgeous shot and I'm glad I stumbled across it. I love spiders! I think this is some kind of a funnel web spider; we have zillions of them in Chicago and they can usually be found near drain-spouts and such with oddly "tornado shaped" webs. They're quite shy. Anyway, I love this shot and I hope to catch up on the other brilliant pieces in this gallery! I've seen some of your more recent ones and I'll be commenting at a more gentlemanly hour as it's nearly 3 AM now and I should be sleeping.
