Description

Terragen 2. I think I finally may be onto something. I used a freebie file posted by cyphyr on the Planetside forum. File Sharing section - The "Cliff and Canyon"setup (thanks from one Richard to another!). I tweaked it radically and came up with this. No cliffs and no canyons. I have to admit: I would never get this on my own. TG2 is far too complicated for me to understand how to set up all the functions to do this. But once connected for me, I see how simply they work. Just to note: the structures are power fractal based, not a heightfield load or the crater shader. There is an entire an entire planet of these things. The voronoi clouds are my invention, though I also learned the function setup somewhere else. Thanks for looking in!

Why should we all re-invent the wheel over and over again? It's great some folks have the knowledge (or should I say insight?) to create versatile shader constructions and share them. And look what you've done with it! I'd call this original!

I like these whaky alien outcrops. And why not stand on giants' shoulders; it's a good way to learn. The more you fiddle and tweak with TG2, the more confident you get, and soon it even starts getting to be fun. Well done, Rich.

I really like the terrain you came up with - this is a classy piece of work!! I think there are maybe three people in the world that build the nodes from scratch. It is very important to look at other tgd file and get a grip on the many different ways that they can be used. The key is how to fiddle with them, and what to fiddle with. And the best way to accomplish that is to just play with it. Which you seem to have done very very well!!!

Oh Richard, you're having fun - yes, try the files tutorials and presets; they all open a new world. You've done a fine bit of experimenting here and came up with a beaut! I'm working with Ryan's 'Golden Autumn' tutorial right now and have learned many new things ...give it a look - better yet, give it a try.

Very cool Rich...I've used and abused others files more often than you know...I, like you, tweaked and changed the files alot and felt that I didn't have to give the others credit...it doesn't seem right yet...I couldn't make a landscape without the settings in Terragen...should I give Matt credit with each image I make??? I think he knows. :) People who share ROCK!!!

OK now you've got my imagination going here Rich, for to me this is the planet of Giants.. yep looks like someone came along and sliced all of em in two. The foreground one looks like his feet are still attached. LOVE it... EXCELLENT work.
