Description

I had only a very short moment in the mew* with this healing eagle. The attitude clearly showed even if in a small area for its own good, that was his/her territory for the time and I was to leave! I took a few quick photos and none are great by any means. At least I do show the eagle and I saw great will power and determination in that large, magnificent bird. 'edit added": Looking back at the situation and this photo, I am really quite happy to have this one and was very fortunate to be in that position. *The mew is technically an area for hawks during molt. We use the term for the smaller more protected containment areas. Too much room at this point or the eagle will fly and likely damage its healing leg. Oh, it will fly in the mew but only a flap. I definitely stood by the door and exited almost quickly as I went in. Next stop is the large eagle flying areas at the Dollywood rehab, behind the scenes healing. Then the eagle will hopefully be released again to the wild. It came from a river/lake area not many miles from the Raptor Center where it now resides.

He certainly looks 'ready' for something and I would not say he looks at ease. Awesome capture, Tom. The feathers look shiny - a sign of good health.

Whatever the situation, I think getting a shot of this level of an eagle is awesome! And something to be happy and proud about. Damn nice shot and you should be proud. Well done Tom.

Beautiful photo in my book...fascinating background to the bird's situation. I live near the Missouri River (Kansas/Missouri state line for some distance) and eagles have historically used the river as a flyway. But have I ever captured an eagle in flight here? Not even close:) One day...

What a superb expression of a magnificent bird! They are indeed, inspiring and seem so ferocious, yet one of the most intelligent birds out there. You captured him wonderfully, great clarity and stunning lighting! A marvellous composition!
