Description

© 2009 Danilo Lejardi Main figure is a Cinema 4D render of a V4 morphed character plus some props; I blended to the original a couple of fractal images created with Apophysis in Photoshop; there´s also a bit of digital painting. Notorious Tropicana nightclub, the template from which Las Vegas was made, is a world known cabaret and nightclub in Havana, Cuba. It was launched in 1939 at Villa Mina, a six-acre (24,000 m²) suburban estate with lush tropical gardens in Havana’s Marianao neighborhood. It inmediately became a magnet for international celebrities, musicians, beautiful women, and gangsters. The long list of stars who flocked to the Tropicana included Édith Piaf, Ernest Hemingway, Jimmy Durante, Pier Angeli, Maurice Chevalier, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Marlon Brando. Headliners included Xavier Cugat, Paul Robeson, Yma Sumac, Carmen Miranda, Nat King Cole, Josephine Baker and Liberace. Heralded as a “Paradise Under the Stars,” the Tropicana became known for its showgirls, conga sounds and flashy, spectacular productions. The Tropicana continues to operate with very few changes to this day, attracting tourists to its elaborate floorshows.

I love the swirls of smoke, lighting, and POV. The head dress, character and her makeup are incredible. You've perfectly caught the flavor of the environment you describe so eloquently. I have always admired Yma Sumac. It's fun to imagine her there. My grandmother was a big fan, and I still have one of Sumac's original record Xtabay. In fact, I recently found her music remastered on CDs. Carmen Miranda was fun, too. What amazing energy the place must have having had all those interesting people. I love your character's expression and pose as she seems to be enjoying her role, yet also looks vulnerable. It's always an inspiration to see you post.
