Description

Rob (debbielove) up to his Nikon in airplanes. Where else would you expect him to be? June 2009. Combat Air Museum, Topeka, Kansas maintenance hangar and storage facility. Got a great backlog of work waiting for volunteers. Volunteers actually are plentiful...it is expert mechanics that are in short supply. If they turned me loose in here, about all I could do is polish something or empty drip pans without guidance:-) That's an old Lockheed T-33A behind Rob. It was an off-shoot of the F-80 Shooting Star. T-33s were mostly converted from single seat F-80s to two seats for pilot training in the USAF and flew for 29 years as the Air Force's primary jet trainer. A ZOOM always helps for detail. Bill:) P.S. Click here for Wiki: T-33 details

I immediately thought ‘Shooting Star’, Bill, wondering if it was some reference to Rob! You were on Mount Olympus, were you? Cheers, Clive

Do my eyes deceive me, or is that the world's largest Pitot tube sticking out from the red nose in the upper right? Great shot of Rob, and the plane behind him looks pretty cool!

Grown up with these flying over... ...friends have flown them at 5 feet oner hayfields, and heard their whisper. Learned of their stories, even intercepting 3rd generations aggressors over the archipelago. Were disbanded in early '00s Thanks, man ! P

Great capture Bill. I would be able to do about as much as you in a hangar like this. I was fortunate enough to fly with out test pilot in one of the T-33 while F-102s were flying intercepts on us. A good feeling sitting on a hot ejection seat and wearing a backpack parachute. BTW, the T-33 neede to go at least 90kts on the ground for a successful ejection!
