Wonderful and orginal picture! I remember I first read about in "Five Weeks in a Balloon" by Jules Verne. But I never thought it was real! But it really happened..

I've been thinking lately of another volcanic eruption. That of Mount Tambora in 1815, which caused the year without a summer in much of the world. The average global temperatures also fell after the eruption of Krakatoa. It's humbling the power bottled up beneath us that we have no control over. Excellent image! I love its abstract quality and the rich emotion it brings forth. The flowing lava shaped rivulets, the despairing poses of the people, the tortured tree, the damaged human artifacts, and the twisted and entwined object on the left. It is all so beautiful and yet so filled with sadness, that it tears at the emotions. Wonderful design and execution. Beautifully done!
