Description

Liked the edge on POV in part II for it being more the portrait of the formation if you will. Also liked the pieces at the bottom that looked like over ripening bananas too. :~) This POV for me is how the forces of nature show their work in creating and eroding this formation. The way the rains have washed the debris down onto the checkerboard sandstone and then into the cracks and down into the Moki marble pool. Meanwhile the wind has begun to undermine the Hematite and Geothite cap from it’s sandstone pedestal. A little more information from Wikipedia on Moki marbles. They are believed to represent an extension of Hopi Native American traditions regarding ancestor worship ("moqui" translates to "the dead" in the Hopi language). Informally, they are called "Moqui marbles" after the local proposed Moqui native American tribe (they have alternately been called "Moqui balls," "Moki marbles," "shaman stones" or "thunderballs" by various rock hounds and geologists. Thanks for all the comments and favs on part II. Hope everyone is enjoying this virtual trek as much as I am. Have a great day. :~)_

I would beg for shade but I'd love to sit and look closely at these rocks. The piling effect of layers is so interesting and the peek-a-boo spot up top is fascinating. Excellent instruction on this type of rock as well.

This is a great view showing the relationship of the different layers. Very interesting. Only the shamans knew where the moki marbles were found. Now you can also be a shaman. Hehe.
