Description

I upgraded my computer to an ASUS Rampage II Extreme motherboard, an Intel Core i7 920 processor overclocked at 3.6 Ghz and 12 GB of 1600 Mhz DDR3 Ram. I wanted to test the stability of my new overclocked system under real working conditions, so I decided to use some of Vue's most time consuming features in a scene that I had been working on for a few days. So, this image was pure torture for my poor processor, but fortunately everything went smoothly :-) This scene contains almost two billion polygons and uses volumetric sunlight, a low density spectral cloud layer for the fog, raytraced depth of field and Global radiosity without any negative quality boost. It took 18 hours to render on custom render settings. On "normal" scenes rendering is a breeze, so anyone considering a new processor should seriously invest into the smallest Core i7 920 model and into some good cooling equipment, because overclocking the processor is well worth it. Some color correction and photographic grain added in PS Elements and PhotoImpact as postwork. I hope you like it, all the details are best seen in full size. Thanks for viewing :-)
