Description
Things are progressing a pace now in Stratford East London, where the Olympic park for 2012 is being built.
The 500 acre plot for the main park has been cleared, 10's of thousands of tons of soil decontaminated, and the main structures have all been started, New locks have been built on the River Lea and the whole river bank is getting a spruce up. The area for miles around seems to be one huge building site.
In this photograph is the main stadium which is being built on an island with 4 bridges to the other venues and transport links. (Aesthetic or security reasons you decide.) The moat (or canal) will be the otherside of the railing in the foreground to where the sheet piling can be seen.
Biometric hand and eye scanners have already been installed on all entrances to the park.
What you see in the photo is mostly the upper tier of 55,000 seats (the bit with the white steel framework), the lower tier is built into the ground so not so visible. The upper tier will be clad in iconic images of athletes covering up the framework when it is complete. There will be a roof covering 2/3rds of the spectators (we all know it never rains in England in July/August). It will be dismantled after the Olympics leaving just the lower tiers as a legacy for the locals.
Well the best we can hope for I suppose is they do leave us with something worthwhile as legacy after the games when everyone one else has gone home.
Richard.
PS Anyone want to buy the top half of a stadium, only used once, very good condition.

Looks to be impressive. Great record of this historic structure being built Richard!

I'm already in training. Lets hope we put on a great Olympics, and show the world what the UK can really do, rather than all the negative rubbish that's printed in the newspapers!
