Description

Good evening all together! Canan nan Ghaidheal - The Language of the Gaels! This is the oldest spoken language in Europe, the scottish gaelic. It is the language of the celts. Celtic languages exist recent in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Isle of Man, the french bretagne, the spanish Galicia and parts of Nova Scotia, Canada A language like this was spoken 2000 years ago in the whole region of middle Europe from Turkey in the east to Spain and Portugal, when celtic tribes reigned over Europe. A language like this was spoken when Caesar fought against the gallic tribes of Vercingetorix,in France, and a language like this was used, when 15 german tribes formed a coalition to beat out the Roman Empire from Germany (In this autunm it is exactly 2000 years ago) The gaelic language was spoken by the scottish heroes: Robert the Bruce, William Wallace, called "Braveheart", or Robert McGregor, called "Rob Roy"..... Today only 1 percent of the Scots speak this old language, only 59 000 persons, and they all live in the West, far out on the Hebride Islands. The pic above shows an old bible, the so called "BEDELL BIBLE". It is one of the oldest printed books in gaelic language. It was produced by William Bedell, bishop of Kilmore in Ireland, and was although printed there. It is only the old testament, the new testament was produced by O´Donnell. In 1688 were 207 of those bibles given to parish churches in the Scottish Highlands, a present from Robert Boyle, the famous Scientist. One of these bibles is placed here inside the Balquidder Church. The book is now more then 300 years old in a bad condition. The pic shows only a replication inside the church. The text is from Mose Chapter 6: 24-26 (Aarons Blessing - "The Lord bless you and keep you....) Uff, another novel at midnight.... Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for your comments for my older pics and - goodnight!

Nice work, and very informative! Similar alphabet to that used in Ireland, some characters differ.
