Description

As we left Balboa Bay for Catalina Saturday morning, it was very foggy. I shot this, just as we left the dock. We didn't get out of the fog till we reached the island; it was sunny and warm there.

Outstanding, misty scene. Isn't it 22 miles from Balboa Bay to Catalina? That's one huge fog bank. Let's see, the land warms faster than the ocean...rising heat drives the fog offshore in the mid-morning, the reverse takes place in the late afternoon causing the fog to roll back in. I got my private pilot's license in Monterey, CA and was always being confounded by the fog:)

I love this shot. This is one of those moments where you can actually hear the thunderous silence of the fog. I had a few fog moments like that in Prague and in Cesky Krumlov...fog so...foggish that you can do nothing but stand there and admire the wonder of it. This is fantastic and it brings back quite a few fond memories. Thank you for that! WOW!
