Description

Birds of the Lachine Rapids The Lachine rapids cover a distance of about 10 km along the south shore of the island of Montreal, resulting from a 12 meters slope in the St. Lawrence River between Lake Saint-Louis and the La Prairie Basin. Several islands in the rapids are home of a diversified avifauna. The rapids are then an important birdwatching site in the Montreal region. They do not freeze in winter and it is possible to see birds any time through the year from different parks on the shore of Montreal and also from the seaway locks at Sainte-Catherine on the south shore of the river. Thanks Magik

Interesting info, beautiful photo and very noisy rapids (as they tend to be!). It made me think of the rapid scene in "The African Queen" I took a look at Cheri's video while I was there. Very nice! [I answered your question about San Antonio's population under my picture. The short answer is (according to 2008 census): Its metropolitan area has a population of 2,031,445,the city has a population of 1,351,305.]
