Description

Hello again! Another pic of the Rob Roy country: We were in Balquidder, where he died, but where he was born? This is Loch Katrine in The Trossachs, it is the heartland of theMacGregor clan. Here nearby is the place where Robert Roy MacGregor was born. When we stayed here in August, I did not know where this place was. Later I read about Glengyle, but I could not find it on a map. Two days ago I found it: Glengyle is only a mile or less away, and a foothpath runs from here to the house. The house is situated at the western end of Loch Katrine, and maybe, the house in the background at the other side could be Glengyle.... I am very sad that we passed that house! This place here is called Stronachlachar, and I took this pic because the house looks very oldfashioned. Maybe it is an old railway station... Inside it is a small snackbar, restaurant and tearoom (they have a wonderful Italian coffee, too) with an open fireplace and a little bit of a scots countryhouse atmosphere. A talented scottish photographer shows his best pics inside. And there is a beautiful lady who served the coffee.... Loch Katrine is the drinking water reservoir for Glasgow, and it is forbidden for motordriven boats. Only one ship is allowed to pass the lake: The "HMS SIR WALTER SCOTT". The ship was constructed in 1899 and was powered by a double steam engine - till 2007! The ship has now an engine with bio diesel and was totally restored. The Pier is the western point were the steamer stops - since more than 100 years. After midnight here, time to say goodbye! Thanks for your interest and your comments, and thanks t everybody who sent comments or took pics as favorites. Good night, billcody
