Description


Here's another example of what a dike can be. Of course this is way out of dikes we use in Holland to protect us from the sea or even the vast rivers of the Netherlands. This dike is a very old one, probably used for protecting land from being overfooded by the river Mark.

Here, we would call this a bi-pass. The water would fill the designated area when it rose with a storm surge and be held there until it could run off naturally. This is really beautiful and so interesting to see how it is cut into the ground.
