zoom zoom in for more details ... What is Gamma Correction and Why do I Care? Gamma Correction set in Poser pro Render Setting to 2.2 is a typical HDR display subsystem and provide optimal perceptual encoding of grays a nonlinear operation used to code and decode luminance in your Poser renders , also great for post work filters , tone-mapping and manipulations it preserve exactly the right balance of the dark-light areas in your renders, removing the gray pixels making it looking clear and clean with a lot of details even in a very dark scenes. The Gamma correction 1.0 is used mostly for printing pictures where the contrast is higher losing a little bit the details, the future will brings us the new 2.20 gamma working devices so our eyes will have more pleasure even after the printing .. You can see from the test above, the right side is a low regular poser pro render a linear render without the grays and luminance correction and the right side the nonlinear renders with the balanced grays and luminance . The Color textures I used was set on 1.0 gamma while I made them to preserve the photographic quality of the materials I was working with, the Bump and Specular maps that was set to gray-scale mode with the correct gamma 2.20.. Maybe you don't know but how higher the rendering quality how finer are the bump and thanks to that the specular effect on the rendering model, it seems like how closer the render how more details , works exactly as in the real photography as long as you preserve the right scales of your textures that you made other way it will looks scary... I used HDR Chrome Clay studio light in this test because was clear white without any influences of the light color on the original textures.. and I am glad with the final effect.. what means the textures would works in any light situation no matter what the color of the light are.. Thanks for the info. I can only imagine what things will look like in say 5 years when we hopefully start seeing HDR capable monitors that show the full range of what can be seen. You're still on the cutting edge of art & science blended together. :-)
