Description

Brooklands is unique. The worlds first purpose-built motor racing circuit, constructed at Weybridge, Surrey in 1907, was more than a great sporting arena. Brooklands was the birthplace of British motorsport The Brooklands Outer Circuit Record was the most prestigious at the track. John Cobb took the speed record to 143.44 mph in this Napier Railton. Regarded as the ultimate Brooklands Racing Car, it was designed and built by Thomson & Taylor in their premises in the Brooklands Aero Village. Powered by a 24 litre Napier Lion engine, the cars record remained unbeaten when racing and record breaking finished at Brooklands in 1939. This shot was captured at The Brighton Speed Trial in September 2009 where the car made a rare demonstration run.

Now, that's a car!!! And a fine pic too. Purposely drove my 1963 Corvette 130mph...a friend passed me in his 1962 Jag doing 160mph. Well we were only 23 or 24. It is impossible to get hurt at that age...didn't you know? :-) We were out in the desert on a 10 mile stretch of perfectly straight road. My knees were rubber when I got out 10 minutes later.
