Description

This is a Klipspringer ewe, which is an Afrikaans name and directly translated means 'rock-jumper'. It has no English name! I have captured this cutie in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. Weighing 11-13 kg and standing 500-600mm high at the shoulders, this is a small and stocky antelope. Ewes are slightly larger than the rams. Only rams have short horns. Klipspringer have smallish rounded ears positioned far back on the head, and with noticeable dark inner markings. The coarse-haired coat is variable in colour with shades of grey, yellow, brown or red, with marked white underparts, chin and lips. Thank you for the visit and for your valued comments and favs on my Sable upload of yesterday! Stay well! Hugs, Carin xx

Wow Carin I can always rely on you to introduce me to yet another animal I have never ever seen before. She really is so sweet to look at, and the markings on her face are very unusual. A great shot my friend, hugs Jane xx

Teeny-tiny. And mighty cooperative for you:) She has almost a mustard-yellow color to her coat. Did she bound away shortly after this? Well done and new to me too.

interesting pic. i read somewhere that the "coarse-haired coat" is actually rather springy, so that if these nimble animals do fall they have a bit of bounce. probably helps them move fast though thorny shrubs too.

With a stocky body like that, I find it hard to picture it leaping around on rocks. It doesn't seem nimble enough but the size of the toes tell me otherwise. What an odd little creature this is. I wonder if they could be ranched or if they are even seen as a food source like sheep are. (No I don't look at everything as my dinner but I know that some animals are traditional to some cultures... either now or in the past.)

Cool, i caught only a far off glimpse of one of these in Etosha in May. They're so cool, a little bit like the Dik -Dik's aren't they.
